So the monsters are coming quicker then I expected. Normally I’m very lazy uploading new work. I don’t get a lot of comments. Maybe that’s because my art isn’t interesting enough, but I hope it’s because people usually don’t give a lot of comments to someone who neglects his own gallery, is offline for months and ‘forgets’ to comment on other peoples art.
Not many people will read this Journal I'm afraid but maybe that’s okay cause my English is poor.
So… something about surrealism, automatism and my monsters.
‘SURREALISM, n. Psychic automatism in its pure state, by which one proposes to express -- verbally, by means of the written word, or in any other manner -- the actual functioning of thought. Dictated by the thought, in the absence of any control exercised by reason, exempt from any aesthetic or moral concern.’ (André Breton, 1924) Manifesto of surrealim by Breton:
www.seaboarcreations.com/sinde…I try not to decorate the drawings or make them pretty, equalized or smooth. Often they are childish and fun like a lot of COBRA-artists (Corneille, Rooskens) paintings are. I don’t think my physic automatism is in it’s ‘pure state’
. I think that’s impossible for anyone, even for someone like André Masson (check his drawings!!! They’re really good) For example: By reason you‘ll always be controlled by the edges of a paper, you just don‘t want to draw on your table. I still try to make Pure creations of my mind, it‘s more like a goal or something. I think it’s logical that I’m repeating the same subject. Monsters just are the right subjects for automatism, they can be any shape, they can have two legs, a hundred or none, it doesn’t matter. I’ve always drawn monsters since I was a kid. I just can’t help it
I still hope my art is interesting and fun to watch. So go on and check it out!
